Brigadier (Retired) David Martin CBE (1957 - 2015)

Brigadier (Retired) David Martin was a Director and Trustee of Operation Christmas Box leading the Operation Christmas Box Team as Chairman from 2009 until his unexpected death in March 2015.

Before joining the Charity as a Director and Trustee, David supported Operation Christmas Box from 2005 whilst serving in the Army, advising the Trustees on the Christmas Boxes’ content and how the MOD could assist the Charity’s work.  As part of his military responsibilities, he visited operational theatres and took every opportunity to seek comments from the Christmas Box recipients about the suitability of the contents.

Representing the MOD, and as Chairman of Operation Christmas Box, David always gave wise and prudent advice to the Trustees, bringing his wide business knowledge gained from his extensive military understanding and membership of the Institute of Directors.  Always representing the Charity’s interests with great enthusiasm and dedication, David worked unstintingly to raise sponsorship and he built very successful relationships with the Charity’s major sponsors.  Under his leadership, he ensured that the Trustees maintained the Charity’s good standing with the Charity Commission at all times.

Before retiring from the military, David had a very distinguished career in the Army, and was awarded the CBE for his tireless efforts in 2003 organising logistical support to the operational theatres of Iraq and Afghanistan.

He is, and will continue to be, greatly missed by the Operation Christmas Box Team as an admired colleague and a dear friend.

Sally Little

Operation Christmas Box

Sally Little has been a Director and Trustee of Operation Christmas Box since it was first registered as a Charity as uk4u-Thanks! in 2oo5. Sally's husband, Brigadier Jeff Little was involved when the first Charity boxes were sent to the Servicemen and Servicewomen who were on operations, away from their families at Christmas. The role had been very satisfying, and it has been a great pleasure to support the troops at this very special time of the year. After 18 years, it is a good time to step back and let the very capable new trustees take the reins.

Allan Sims

Operation Christmas Box

Allan was a founding trustee with Sally Little when the Charity was originally formed. Allan held commissions in the Fleet Air Arm and later, the Royal Air Force. Allan's ample girth, together with the Charity's aims, led to him being appointed as the charity's very own Father Christmas, which task he enjoyed for the next 18 years.

Allan was the treasurer for the Charity from the beginning until 2022.

Charles Wookey

Operation Christmas Box

Charles first became involved with Operation Christmas Box in 2005 as an RAF officer working in the Defence Catering Group, later to become Defence Food Services Project Team, with Brigadier David Martin. He retired from the RAF in 2010 but continued his work with the charity, a task that he really believed in and enjoyed.

After 18 years involvement with Operation Christmas Box, he decided that it was time to step down as a director and trustee.
