Professor Peter Doyle
Professor Peter Doyle, the author of many works of military history and the material culture of warfare, contacted the Operation Christmas Box Trustees. He is just finishing a book on the 1914 Princess Mary’s Gift, and naturally he was very interested in ‘Operation Christmas Box’. The book’s title is ‘For Every Sailor Afloat, Every Soldier at the Front’ Princess Mary’s Christmas Gift, 1914.’ The last chapter examines the legacy of Princess Mary’s efforts. He specifically refers to our Christmas Boxes in the text.
We supplied him with our 2014 Christmas Box, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the start of World War 1 (WW1), with which he was delighted. Inside was a modern copy of the original Princess Mary gift box containing our unique pack of WW1 commemorative playing cards. Also included was some of the many positive comments that we received from recipients of our boxes over the years.
Look out for and enjoy that book.
